How to Care for Your Granite Table Top

Granite Properties and What to Expect:

Granite is an igneous rock. It forms from the slow crystallization of magma below Earth’s surface. Granite is used all around us, especially if you live in a city. It can be used for counter tops, floor tiles, building veneer, and cemetery monuments. Granite is a prestige material used for both exterior and interior applications. Because granite is a natural source, there will be variation in colors and patterns. Not all tables will look exactly alike. Cafe Tables’ granite and quartz tops combine an aesthetic beauty with durability and ease of maintenance. Natural granite and quartz stand above all other table top choices as durable, sanitary and beautiful.

Cleaning and Maintenance:

Granite is extremely resistant to bacteria and our sealed table tops make it stain-resistant. Keeping granite clean is easy. Just wipe the table with warm, soapy water and rinse thoroughly. Do not use vinegar, Windex or bleach on granite. The acidity will dull the granite and weaken the sealant. Do not use abrasive cleaner or pads to avoid scratching. For stains, make a paste of baking soda and water. Gently scrub the spot with the paste and a soft cloth. Rinse thoroughly.

For an extremely tough stain, put the paste on the spot, cover with plastic wrap and tape the edges down. Let it sit until the paste dries. This may take a couple of days. When the paste is dry, use a soft cloth to wipe it away and rinse with warm water.

Note: Normal wear and tear will wear the sealant off, leaving the table dull and susceptible to stains. Granite should be resealed every two to four years.

Knowing how to clean a granite table top will make the sealant last and keep the table beautiful for years!
